j designs is based in Portland, Oregon and run by Tay Juncker.
Designer, illustrator, layout artist
Introvert, feminist, malamute fanatic
Tay rhymes with Pie, which I also love.
What I do: I illustrated my first book in Kindergarten. Collaging with cotton balls, fabric, paper and crayons, it was my childhood passion. I feel like I am still doing collage: the instruments and textures are different but the passion is the same.
I love putting all the pieces together and making designs that engage.
Purpose:
To inspire and create interesting thoughtful pieces.
Style:
Cooperative and independent. It’s very important to me that the process is easy and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Having fun is paramount.
Experience:
Magazines design layout and production for six different magazines.
Brochures, annual reports, booklets, cards, as well as some logo and identity work.
Tools:
My playground is paper & pen along with a scanner and the Adobe Creative Suite.
